New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – A Delhi court has convicted Jasvinder Singh, alias Kalia, for the murder of his wife, Pinky, in 2020, ruling that the "chain of circumstances" surrounding the crime firmly establishes his guilt. The court observed that Singh acted "shrewdly" to cover up the murder, attempting to evade detection.
Additional Sessions Judge Vishal Singh noted that the evidence presented in the case revealed an "unbroken" sequence of events, pointing directly to Singh as the perpetrator of the crime. "The chain of circumstances in which Pinky was murdered is unbroken and complete, and unmistakably points out the guilt of accused Jasvinder Singh and no one else," the judge stated in the ruling.
The case was filed against Singh by the Defence Colony Police Station under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. According to court records, Singh and his wife lived on the first floor of a house separate from other family members. Testimonies from Pinky's father and sister revealed that Singh had been unhappy with his wife due to her health issues, including fits and an inability to conceive a child. It was further noted that Singh often mistreated Pinky while intoxicated.
The court's investigation revealed that Pinky had been in contact with her sister, Asha, until around 2:30 pm on January 13, 2020. Asha was later informed by Singh around 6:15 pm that Pinky was unwell and had suffered a seizure. However, medical evidence later revealed that Pinky had sustained multiple injuries to her face, and the cause of death was determined to be "asphyxia through the combined effect of smothering and strangulation."
The court also highlighted that no one visited the couple on the day of the incident, and Singh's actions were highly suspicious. It was noted that Singh had given conflicting explanations to various witnesses about the injuries sustained by his wife.
The court has scheduled a hearing for February 10 to determine the quantum of punishment for Singh.
