A Delhi court on Monday recorded the statement of the husband of one of the women wrestlers who accused former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual harassment.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasiya conducted the hearing in-chamber, during which the witness provided his testimony. However, the examination remained incomplete, prompting the court to schedule the next hearing on March 25, 2025.

Charges Framed Against Brij Bhushan Singh and Vinod Tomar

Earlier, on May 21, 2024, the court had formally framed charges against Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment and employing criminal force intended to outrage the modesty of women wrestlers. Singh, denying all allegations, had pleaded not guilty and requested a trial.

The judge also framed an additional charge of criminal intimidation against Singh. A similar charge was imposed on the co-accused, former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar.

Details of Chargesheet Filed by Delhi Police

The Delhi Police, in its chargesheet submitted on June 15, 2023, booked Singh under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:

  • Section 354: Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty
  • Section 354A: Sexual harassment
  • Section 354D: Stalking
  • Section 506: Criminal intimidation

Minor Wrestler’s Case Recommended for Closure

In a separate but related matter, a minor wrestler previously expressed satisfaction with the Delhi Police's investigation and supported the police recommendation to close her case. This decision followed a statement by her father, who admitted during the investigation that he falsely accused Singh of sexual harassment due to perceived injustice against his daughter.

Consequently, the police recommended dropping charges filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Singh, citing a lack of corroborative evidence.

The police, however, proceeded with charges of sexual harassment and stalking in the separate case filed based on complaints by six adult women wrestlers.

The court will resume hearing the ongoing case on March 25, where further statements are expected.
