New Delhi, Feb 27: A Delhi court has requested trial records related to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks from a Mumbai court, in anticipation of the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the alleged mastermind behind the deadly attack.
District Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav issued the directive on January 28, instructing Mumbai court officials to provide the necessary documents. The order came in response to a plea filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which sought the retrieval of records that had previously been transferred to Mumbai due to multiple cases being linked to the attacks across both cities.
Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, faces extradition to India following a ruling by a US court. He is accused of playing a key role in facilitating the 2008 Mumbai terror attack orchestrated by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.
With the extradition process progressing, the retrieval of these trial records is expected to play a crucial role in legal proceedings against Rana in India.
