New Delhi, May 10 — The Directorate of Education (DoE) has released comprehensive guidelines for the registration of government school students seeking admission to Class 10 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for the 2025–26 academic session.
This initiative is part of the ongoing NIOS project aimed at curbing school dropouts by offering an alternate pathway to students who have repeatedly failed in regular school examinations, enabling them to complete their formal education via open schooling.
Eligibility Criteria Defined
As per the official circular, students studying in Delhi government schools under the DoE who have been declared 'fail' or placed in 'compartment' in Class 9 or 10 on at least two occasions up to the last academic session (2024–25) are eligible to register under this scheme.Students who have failed or received a compartment for the first time in the 2024–25 session are not eligible under the current scheme. These students are advised to continue their studies in their current schools.
Only students holding valid School Leaving Certificates (SLCs) issued by their respective schools will be considered for enrollment.
Role of Schools and Enrollment Procedure
Heads of schools have been entrusted with the responsibility of identifying, contacting, and enrolling eligible students. They must also ensure all relevant student data is updated in the MIS module prior to registration.Registration will be facilitated through approximately 75 designated study centers across Delhi where the classes will be held.
Subjects Offered and Benefits
Students enrolling in the program can choose:- Two languages (options include Hindi, English, and Sanskrit)
- Social Science (mandatory)
- Two additional subjects with practical components such as
- Home Science
- Painting
- Science and Technology
Deadline for Applications
The last date to submit online applications and payment of fees for NIOS Class 10 admission is July 31, 2025.This move reflects the government’s continued effort to reduce academic dropouts and ensure inclusive education for all.
