Delhi DoE Tightens Internship Verification for School Students to Ensure Meaningful Workplace...webp

New Delhi, May 17—In a significant move to enhance vocational education, the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued fresh directives to tighten the verification process for school-based internships conducted during summer and autumn breaks. Officials confirmed that this initiative seeks to ensure that students receive safe, skill-oriented, and genuinely beneficial workplace exposure.

Enhanced Oversight to Ensure Quality Internships

The new guidelines, detailed in a circular issued on May 13, mandate stricter monitoring by Heads of Schools (HoSs) and designated Resource Persons. The DoE emphasized the importance of closely verifying internship details, including the name of the employer, internship location, duration, student participation levels, and the type of experience offered.

These specifics must be meticulously documented and submitted using a standardized format to uphold transparency and accountability in the internship programme.

On-Site Visits to Evaluate Student Experience

Resource Persons have been tasked with visiting two to four internship locations daily. Their responsibilities include evaluating the quality of training, monitoring student engagement, ensuring the alignment of assigned tasks with vocational trade standards, and confirming safety protocols.

“Their role includes checking student engagement, the relevance of assigned tasks to vocational trade, and whether safety protocols are being followed,” the circular stated.

Focus on Experiential and Skill-Based Learning

This development is part of the DoE’s broader effort to embed experiential learning into the education system. The department currently offers various internship programmes targeted at both high school and higher education students undergoing vocational training. These initiatives are designed to equip students with practical skills and real-world exposure during their academic breaks.

Officials reiterated that these verification steps are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the programmes, safeguarding student welfare, and ensuring internships are not treated as mere formalities.

The Delhi DoE’s proactive stance aims to foster a culture of meaningful, hands-on learning, reinforcing its commitment to equipping students with relevant skills for the future.
