New Delhi, February 9 Ashok Kumar, an IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre from the 2006 batch, was appointed as the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi on Monday.
The Election Commission stated that Kumar needs to assume his new role "immediately," and the Delhi government must submit a compliance report to the Commission within a week.
He replaces R. Alice Vaz, who was transferred out of Delhi last month. She was asked to continue as the Delhi CEO until a new officer was appointed.
The poll authority had earlier requested a panel of three IAS officers for appointing a new Chief Electoral Officer.
Typically, IAS officers from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, UTs) cadre are appointed as CEOs in Delhi, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram.
