Initiative Aims to Eliminate Ineligible Beneficiaries and Prevent Duplication

New Delhi, May 15—In a move to enhance the efficiency of welfare scheme delivery, the Delhi government is developing a comprehensive 'Unified Data Hub' to ensure that only eligible citizens receive the benefits of its various welfare programs, officials said on Thursday.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Delhi government's Information Technology (IT) Department, seeks to consolidate beneficiary data from multiple departments administering welfare schemes. According to officials, this centralised data system will serve as a crucial tool in identifying and eliminating ineligible recipients and curbing duplication of benefits.

Centralised Platform for Beneficiary Verification

A senior official highlighted that the Unified Data Hub will gather a wide range of personal and household details from beneficiaries, including:
  • Full names
  • Number of family members
  • Profession
  • Annual income
  • Residential address
  • Caste
  • Age
  • Educational qualifications
  • Gender
By aggregating this data, the government can more effectively cross-verify applications and ensure that only those who genuinely qualify receive assistance.

Inter-Departmental Data Integration

The hub will integrate data from key departments such as:
  • Food and Civil Supplies
  • Revenue Department
  • Delhi Jal Board
  • Power Department
  • Trade and Taxes Department
  • Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)

Officials stated that this cross-departmental data collection will create a single source of truth, significantly improving the accuracy of eligibility checks and preventing cases where the same individual might access multiple subsidised or free services under different schemes.

Enhanced Governance and Service Delivery

With the establishment of the Unified Data Hub, the Delhi government expects to enhance the transparency and efficiency of its welfare schemes. The platform is designed to support the eligibility assessment process and reduce the wastage of public funds by ensuring targeted and need-based benefits distribution.

The move underscores the government's commitment to using technology to improve public service delivery and uphold the integrity of welfare programs.
