New Delhi, February 11 Chief Minister Rekha Gupta distributed financial assistance to the children of 15,700 construction workers on Wednesday, marking the first anniversary of the BJP government in Delhi.
Addressing a gathering of workers at Thyagraj Stadium, Gupta said her government would disburse a fund of ₹12.40 crore to help the children of the workers realize their educational aspirations.
The financial assistance was credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer.
Under the scheme, children from classes 1 to 8 receive ₹500 per month, those in classes 9 and 10 receive ₹700 per month, and students in classes 11 and 12 are given ₹1,000 per month.
Undergraduate students are eligible for ₹3,000 per month, while those pursuing technical and professional courses such as ITI, polytechnic, engineering, medical, and MBA programmes can receive up to ₹10,000 per month.
Gupta took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi along with her Council of Ministers on February 20 last year.
The BJP government has been launching welfare initiatives and development projects marking the anniversary.
She said that her government has launched several initiatives, such as 'Palna', a creche for working women's children, and Atal Canteen that offers meals at ₹5 per person.
Gupta said that the Delhi government was the first to adopt the four Labour Codes of the Centre to safeguard the interests of the workers.
The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has registered over two lakh workers, and every penny of the ₹5,400 crore with it will be spent on the welfare of the workers, she said.
Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said that the government has a scheme to provide financial assistance to workers in cases of emergency, such as accidents at work.
The chief minister also inaugurated newly constructed panchayat buildings in two villages and laid the foundation stone for 59 development projects across 37 villages.
The projects worth ₹134 crore will boost infrastructure and civic amenities in rural Delhi, said a statement from the CMO.
