ORS sachets, awareness posters, shaded areas and ‘Jal Doots’ part of Delhi’s Heat Action Plan 2025
New Delhi, May 12 — With Delhi bracing for an intense summer, the city government has activated a comprehensive plan to protect commuters from heat-related illnesses at its major Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs). Key measures include distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets, putting up educational posters, and ensuring access to drinking water and shaded waiting areas.According to officials, the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has floated a tender to procure informative pamphlets and posters that caution against symptoms of heat stress and suggest preventive actions. These materials will be prominently displayed at the Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar ISBTs.
In a significant health initiative, the DTIDC will procure 5,000 ORS sachets for distribution among passengers, bus conductors, and staff who may experience dehydration or heat exhaustion.
“These steps are integral to the Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025,” an official stated. “The aim is to be fully prepared before peak heatwave conditions set in, ensuring commuters can travel with ease and safety.”
Additional plans include setting up drinking water stations and shaded rest zones at the ISBTs, which witness heavy footfall every day. The Kashmere Gate ISBT handles more than 1,600 buses, including inter-state, DTC, Cluster, and All India Tourist Permit buses. Anand Vihar ISBT serves around 870 buses, while Sarai Kale Khan manages approximately 240 buses.
During a recent meeting, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh underscored the importance of deploying ‘Jal Doots’ — trained personnel tasked with distributing purified drinking water at various bus queue shelters throughout the city.
These initiatives are designed not only to offer immediate relief to the public but also to raise awareness about the dangers of extreme heat and the importance of hydration and precaution.
