New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)government in Delhi of deliberately refusing central assistance to avoid giving credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing three election rallies in Rajendra Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Chandni Chowk, Singh urged voters to break the 26-year Congress-AAP dominance and give the BJP a chance in the upcoming Assembly elections.
"Delhi Didn’t Get the Development It Deserves"
Highlighting India's economic progress under the BJP government, Singh claimed that while the country has grown significantly, Delhi has not benefited due to AAP’s reluctance to collaborate with the Centre."India was the 11th largest economy in 2014; today, it ranks fifth. When the nation is developing under Modi ji, why should Delhi be left behind?" Singh asked.
He accused the AAP dispensation of rejecting the Centre’s help purely due to political rivalry, asserting, "We don't discriminate against any state, but the (Delhi) chief minister is afraid that Modi ji will get the credit."
"AAP and Congress Playing a Friendly Match"
Singh also lashed out at both AAP and Congress, calling them two sides of the same coin. He pointed to their alliance in the INDIA bloc, claiming that internal conflicts have led Congress to contest the Delhi elections independently."Congress and AAP are in a friendly fight. First, they formed an alliance, and then Congress got greedy, deciding to fight alone," he remarked.
Attacking former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Singh criticized him for not stepping down despite being jailed in the liquor policy case. He further recalled how Kejriwal defied Anna Hazare during the India Against Corruption movement, stating, "They promised not to form a political party, but Kejriwal went against Anna Hazare’s wishes and broke the people's trust."
"Rahul Gandhi’s Contradictions, Kharge’s Remarks on Kumbh"
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Singh said, "He claimed he would rather die than compromise with the BJP. But did anyone ask him to?"He also criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks on the Maha Kumbh, questioning whether he would make similar statements about other religions.
Referring to the recent stampede at the Kumbh, Singh expressed condolences to the victims and assured that he would speak with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the tragedy.
BJP Promises to Continue AAP’s Welfare Schemes
In a final appeal to Delhi voters, Singh assured that if BJP comes to power, it will continue all existing AAP-led welfare schemes while bringing in its own governance model."I am here to appeal to you: save Delhi. What has the AAP government done to it?" he questioned, urging voters to support the BJP for a change in leadership.
