New Initiative Aims to Eliminate Duplication and Ensure Only Genuine Beneficiaries Receive Aid
New Delhi, May 15 — The Delhi government is building a comprehensive 'Unified Data Hub' to streamline and verify the beneficiaries of its various welfare schemes, according to officials. The initiative is led by the Information Technology (IT) Department and aims to ensure that only eligible individuals receive government benefits, thereby eliminating fraud and duplication.Centralised System to Replace Disjointed Data Across Departments
The Unified Data Hub will consolidate beneficiary data from multiple departments involved in welfare distribution, such as the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Revenue Department, Delhi Jal Board, Power Department, Trade and Taxes, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).A senior official stated that the new system will collate extensive personal and household information including:
- Names
- Number of family members
- Profession
- Annual income
- Residential address
- Caste
- Age
- Educational qualification
- Gender
Eliminating Ineligible and Duplicate Beneficiaries
The main objective of the data hub is to detect and remove ineligible individuals who may be wrongfully availing of government subsidies and services. By centralising information, the government can prevent multiple enrolments of the same individual or household across different schemes."This system will serve as a robust tool for verifying the eligibility of applicants for various welfare initiatives, ensuring that only those who meet the required criteria benefit from them," the official added.
Expected Impact on Welfare Delivery
Once operational, the Unified Data Hub is expected to significantly enhance the accuracy of welfare distribution and promote efficient use of public resources. It will also assist policymakers in identifying gaps and areas that require more focused intervention. The initiative marks a significant step in leveraging technology for governance and underscores the Delhi government's commitment to transparency and accountability in public welfare.
