New Delhi, Feb 27: Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma has announced a formal investigation into the alleged misuse of government funds for the renovation of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. The bungalow, located at 6, Flagstaff Road, has been termed "Sheesh Mahal" by the BJP, which has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of extravagant spending on luxury upgrades.

Speaking on Thursday, Verma stated that the probe will scrutinize the expenses incurred in reconstructing the Chief Minister’s office, which was built three years ago under the AAP government. “We will investigate how much money was allocated for the reconstruction and on what grounds officials approved such expenditures,” he said.

Additionally, the review will extend to Kejriwal’s official residence, assessing the financial outlay for its refurbishment. Verma, who defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat during the February 5 assembly elections, emphasized that accountability will be ensured.

As the newly appointed Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Verma conducted an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Defence Colony. During his visit, he addressed concerns over a long-neglected culvert (‘puliya’) that has remained in disrepair for two years, causing severe traffic congestion. Directing officials to accelerate the tendering process, he assured residents that repair work would commence by April.

“This road connects to Barapullah and is a vital corridor for commuters. Due to negligence by the previous government, the cost of the Barapullah project has doubled from its original estimate,” Verma stated, criticizing the AAP government for its lack of oversight.

He further accused the previous administration of failing to monitor infrastructure projects over the past decade, asserting that no minister from Kejriwal’s cabinet had visited the site for progress evaluations.

With the new government in place, Verma reiterated his commitment to ensuring financial transparency and improving Delhi’s infrastructure.
