New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a summons to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav directed the registration of the suit and scheduled the next hearing for April 28 before the joint registrar.
"Let the plaint be registered as a suit. Issue summons to the defendant (Tharoor). List before the joint registrar on April 28," the court stated.
Chandrasekhar Alleges Defamation
The defamation case stems from Tharoor's alleged statements made at multiple public platforms in April 2024, which Chandrasekhar claims damaged his professional and personal reputation. In his plea, the BJP leader has sought a court order restraining Tharoor from making any further defamatory remarks. Additionally, he has demanded a public apology and ₹10 crore in damages, accusing Tharoor of tarnishing his image.
The allegations are linked to an interview on a television channel, where Tharoor allegedly claimed that Chandrasekhar had offered money to voters during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Chandrasekhar is being represented by the law firm Karanjawala & Company in the legal proceedings.
The case is set to be heard further on April 28, with legal experts closely watching the developments.
