Delhi LG VK Saxena Inaugurates Restoration of Heritage Structures at Sanjay Van

New Delhi, March 3 — Delhi Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, on Monday inaugurated the restoration of historic structures at Sanjay Van, marking a significant step in the preservation and revival of the city’s heritage. The event underscores the city’s commitment to maintaining its rich cultural legacy while enhancing public spaces for future generations.

During the inauguration, Saxena emphasized the government's dedication to heritage conservation, stating, “We are committed to restoring heritage sites and handing them over to the people of Delhi so that they become active stakeholders in their preservation.”

The restoration, carried out by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), involved the meticulous revival of two historic structures and a traditional well, restoring them to their original grandeur. A new water cascade has also been introduced in one of the restored structures, enhancing the aesthetic appeal while ensuring that the natural surroundings were not disturbed.

The event saw the participation of several notable figures, including South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, local MLA Gajender Singh Yadav, and DDA Vice Chairman Vijay Kumar Singh.

According to a statement from the DDA, the site’s transformation began following a visit by the LG in May 2023. At that time, Sanjay Van’s heritage structures were in a state of disrepair, surrounded by overgrown vegetation, dirt, and garbage. The subsequent efforts to restore the area have aimed not only at preserving its historical significance but also at revitalizing the environment and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Saxena also highlighted that this initiative is part of a larger vision to promote holistic development across Delhi, ensuring sustainable urban growth while honoring the city’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

The restoration of Sanjay Van’s heritage sites is a key component of ongoing efforts by the Delhi government to create more green spaces and improve the overall urban environment for Delhiites.
