New Delhi, Feb 22 – A six-year-long manhunt for a fraudster accused of duping a businessman out of ₹1 crore in a fake investment scheme has ended with the arrest of 29-year-old Tarun Kumar. The Delhi Police apprehended Kumar, a resident of Karnal, Haryana, on February 20, an official confirmed.

Kumar was wanted in a case registered at Lahori Gate Police Station in 2019 after he and his accomplices allegedly lured the complainant, Sunil Juneja, into investing ₹1 crore with the false promise of receiving ₹1.25 crore in return. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Juneja handed over the cash to Kumar and his associate, Ajeet, on January 15, 2019. However, soon after, Kumar and his accomplices, including prime accused Mohammed Ashraf, absconded.

While Ashraf was arrested earlier, Kumar remained at large, frequently changing locations and jobs to evade capture. Police officials traced Kumar’s movements through technical surveillance, eventually tracking him down in Karnal, Haryana.

Despite holding a BBA degree, Kumar had been working in the insurance sector while on the run. Authorities revealed that he deliberately shifted jobs and residences to avoid detection. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the long-pending case.

The police continue to investigate the involvement of other associates in the fraud.
