Suspects Allegedly Siphoned ₹24.35 Lakh Using Forged Cheques
New Delhi police arrested two suspects allegedly involved in siphoning funds from dormant bank accounts through forged cheques, officials confirmed on Friday. The accused, identified as Kapil Kumar (26) and Lokendra (36), were apprehended following a detailed investigation into a sophisticated financial fraud operation.
Investigation Triggered by Victim's Complaint
The investigation began after Sanjeev Kumar filed a complaint reporting an unauthorized withdrawal of ₹24.35 lakh from his bank account. Kumar revealed that the original cheques used for the fraudulent transactions remained in his possession, hinting at a highly sophisticated forgery.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh stated that a thorough analysis of the financial transactions traced ₹14.5 lakh directly into Kapil Kumar’s account, while another ₹9.09 lakh was transferred into two separate bank accounts linked to Lokendra.
Detailed Analysis of Call Records Leads to Arrests
Despite receiving legal notices, both suspects evaded law enforcement for some time. However, investigators were able to trace and arrest them on February 26, 2025, after conducting an extensive analysis of their call records.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed they had been recruited by Dharmender Chouhan, who offered significant commissions for facilitating these fraudulent transactions through their bank accounts. Additionally, another individual identified as Ehtesam was revealed to be involved in orchestrating the fraud.
Efforts Ongoing to Locate Additional Suspects
Authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the absconding suspects, Dharmender Chouhan and Ehtesam.
