New Delhi, February 28 – In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police has successfully solved a burglary case in Northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar using Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of stolen cash, diamonds, and pearls, officials confirmed on Friday.
The case came to light on February 16 when the police received a PCR call reporting a burglary at the residence of Naveen Kumar Chopra. The complainant stated that his house had been broken into, and several gold items were stolen. Acting on his complaint, authorities promptly registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
A thorough analysis of CCTV footage enabled investigators to obtain a clear image of the suspect. Leveraging FRS technology, police identified the culprit as 28-year-old Imran, a resident of Timarpur and a known habitual offender with a history of theft-related crimes.
A police team conducted a raid at Imran’s native village, leading to his arrest. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime and disclosed that he had sold the stolen jewellery to a goldsmith, identified as Sachin Verma, 36.
Following Imran’s revelation, police recovered ₹5.87 lakh in cash along with stolen valuables, including diamonds and pearls. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, further investigations led to the arrest of Verma, from whom jewellery fragments were seized. Verma admitted to selling the gold to jewellers in Ghaziabad, though he had no prior criminal record.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to recover the remaining stolen jewellery. The case highlights the growing role of technology, particularly facial recognition, in solving crimes and enhancing law enforcement efficiency in Delhi.
