Delhi Police Encounter: Two Suspects Shot After Robbing Constable's Motorcycle

New Delhi, March 1: Two men were shot by police during an encounter in north Delhi’s Wazirabad after they allegedly robbed a motorcycle at gunpoint from a constable attempting to apprehend them, officials said on Saturday.

High-Speed Chase Leads to Motorcycle Robbery

The incident occurred on February 26, when constables Dinesh and Sandeep were patrolling along Outer Ring Road on a motorcycle. During their routine duty, they spotted a speeding car near the Mukundpur Flyover and signaled it to stop for a vehicle check.

However, the three occupants of the car chose to flee instead of complying. While one suspect was caught by Dinesh, another brandished a gun at the constable, forcing him to release his accomplice. The duo then fled the scene, stealing Dinesh’s motorcycle and leaving behind their car.

Vehicle Search Uncovers Weapons

Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, police recovered two knives and a country-made pistol. Further investigation led officers to identify the registered owner of the car as Salman, a resident of Laxmi Nagar. Salman was later apprehended in Sonipat, Haryana.

During interrogation, Salman revealed that a man named Kishan had purchased the car in his name and had coerced him into filing a false theft report. This led police to track Kishan’s movements, eventually locating him in Gharaunda, Karnal, Haryana. However, he had switched off his phone in an attempt to evade arrest.

Encounter in Wazirabad

Investigators later traced Kishan’s whereabouts to Tara Chowk in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur, where a trap was set to apprehend him. Two men on a motorcycle were spotted and signaled to stop, but they attempted to flee. Their motorcycle skidded after being intercepted, and they attempted to escape on foot.

As police moved to arrest them, the suspects opened fire, hitting an officer's bulletproof vest. In retaliation, the police shot both men in the legs, subduing them.

Criminal Background of Suspects

The arrested individuals were identified as Intezar Qureshi (46) and Kishan (31), both with prior criminal records. The case remains under investigation, with police looking into their involvement in other crimes.

The swift action by Delhi Police in tracking and apprehending the suspects has been commended, as authorities continue efforts to curb organized crime in the region.
