Delhi Police nabs man from Himachal in sextortion case

New Delhi, February 4 (PTI) — A 19-year-old man, Amit Kumar, was arrested on Tuesday by the Dwarka Cyber Police for his alleged involvement in a sextortion case. The accused was apprehended in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, following a complaint lodged by one of the victims.

Kumar is accused of luring individuals through video calls, during which he recorded explicit videos with the intent to blackmail his targets for money. According to police, the scam first came to light when a victim reported being defrauded of Rs 4.84 lakh in August of last year.

The victim explained that he received a brief video call from a woman, which was abruptly disconnected. Shortly thereafter, a caller identifying himself as a CBI officer contacted the victim, claiming that the woman in the video had died. The caller demanded a large sum of money in exchange for a compromise.

Following the complaint, a special team was formed to investigate the case. The police tracked Kumar's movements to Chamba, where he was subsequently arrested.

Authorities discovered that the accused had opened multiple bank accounts to receive the extorted money. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and police are working to uncover further details.
