New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a swift operation, Delhi Police successfully rescued a four-month-old infant who had been kidnapped from Safdarjung Hospital and arrested a woman in connection with the crime, an official said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on January 29 when a 32-year-old woman from Bihar lodged a complaint about the abduction of her infant son. According to officials, the mother had briefly entrusted her baby to an unidentified woman while she went to buy milk. However, upon her return, both the woman and the child had vanished.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station, and an investigation was launched, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary.

A dedicated team analyzed CCTV footage, uncovering crucial evidence, including metro and bus tickets found in a bag abandoned by the accused. Surveillance footage revealed that the woman had taken the baby in an auto-rickshaw towards Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital. Further investigations traced her to a car registered to her husband, Rajiv.

Acting on this lead, police conducted a raid in the early hours of January 30 in Ambedkar Colony, Alipur, where they arrested the accused, identified as 35-year-old Neetu, and safely recovered the infant.

During interrogation, Neetu confessed that she had staged a pregnancy to deceive her husband and in-laws. On January 29, she falsely claimed to have given birth and was later picked up from the hospital by her husband and father-in-law, along with the kidnapped child, police revealed.

Authorities have assured that further investigations are underway to examine all aspects of the case.
