New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has stated that no written complaints have been found regarding AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations of BJP workers harassing and intimidating his party's volunteers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
Responding to Kejriwal’s plea for independent observers and police intervention, the CEO’s office conveyed in a letter that a review by the District Election Officer (DEO) and Delhi Police found “no written complaints in most cases.”
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to provide protection for AAP workers and suspend police officials for allegedly failing to prevent attacks by BJP supporters.
The CEO, however, asserted that election-related complaints are investigated per legal and Election Commission of India (ECI) norms. "Appropriate action as per ECI guidelines is either initiated or recommended in such cases," the letter stated.
The electoral body also reassured that all complaints filed through the EC’s C-VIGIL portal were being processed promptly. “In the New Delhi constituency, 115 complaints have been addressed within 100 minutes in the majority of cases since January 7,” it added.
Furthermore, the CEO’s office highlighted that cash and liquor seizures were actively conducted to curb electoral malpractice. “Rs 36 lakh in cash and 144 liters of liquor have been confiscated so far,” the statement noted.
With polling just three days away, AAP continues to raise concerns over alleged foul play, while the BJP has dismissed the accusations as mere political tactics.
