New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) – Union ministers S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, were among the early voters who cast their ballots in the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday morning.
The first to vote also included prominent political figures such as AAP’s former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer R. Alice Vaz.
Several key candidates from the major political parties exercised their voting rights early. These included AAP's Greater Kailash contender Saurabh Bharadwaj, BJP’s Karawal Nagar hopeful Kapil Mishra, Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, who is contesting from New Delhi, and Kalkaji candidate Alka Lamba.
With approximately 1.56 crore eligible voters, Delhi is witnessing a highly anticipated triangular contest between the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress. AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term in power, while both the BJP and Congress are seeking to make a comeback in the capital.
Polling is taking place across 13,766 stations spread across the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi, determining the political fate of 699 candidates. The results of the election are set to be announced on February 8.
