New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, security across the national capital has been significantly tightened. Over 150 companies of paramilitary forces and more than 30,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure free, fair, and peaceful voting, a senior official said on Monday.
Speaking to PTI Videos, Special CP (Crime) and In-charge of the Election Cell, Devesh Chandra Srivastva, highlighted the comprehensive security preparations. “All Delhi Police personnel are fully committed to maintaining a peaceful election environment. Pre-poll arrangements have been made, and vigilance has been heightened,” he stated.
The Delhi Police has been actively seizing illegal substances and cash to curb election malpractices. A record haul of drugs, liquor, and cash has been reported in the run-up to the polls.
During the meeting, Delhi Police requested over 150 paramilitary companies and cyber-specialist officers to monitor and prevent any security threats. Intelligence-sharing among law enforcement agencies has also been reinforced to counter anti-social elements and possible terrorist activities.

Authorities have identified nearly 3,000 polling booths as sensitive, where additional security forces and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will be deployed. High-Level Coordination for Poll Security

Crackdown on MCC Violations and Illegal Activities
According to Delhi Police data, more than 1,000 cases of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations have been registered between January 7 and February 2. Authorities have also arrested 33,434 individuals under various legal provisions, including the Excise Act.Security forces have confiscated:
- 462 illegal firearms and 510 cartridges, leading to the arrest of 482 individuals under the Arms Act.
- 1,08,258 litres of liquor, with 1,353 people arrested in connection.
- 196.6 kg of drugs worth over ₹77.9 crore, with more than 177 arrests.
- 1,200 banned injections.
- ₹11.23 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver.
District-Level Preparedness
All district Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and senior officials have been briefed on election security.- Sachin Sharma, DCP (Outer district), mentioned that initiatives such as police selfie points are being implemented to encourage voter participation.
- Surendra Choudhary, DCP (Southwest district), reported intensified day and night patrolling.
- Ravi Kumar Singh, DCP (Southeast district), stated that flag marches are being conducted daily in sensitive areas.

Delhi Police has ramped up border security checks to curb the smuggling of arms, drugs, and cash.
