New Delhi, May 16—Delhi's air quality continued to remain in the 'poor' category on Friday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 297 at 9 a.m., according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital witnessed a minimum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius, marginally below the seasonal average by 0.3 degrees. The relative humidity was measured at 44 percent at 8:30 am.

The weather department has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain for Friday and Saturday. Despite the wet spell, the maximum temperature will likely hover around 41 degrees Celsius.

Understanding the AQI Levels​

The AQI scale is divided into six categories:
  • 0–50: Good
  • 51–100: Satisfactory
  • 101–200: Moderate
  • 201–300: Poor
  • 301–400: Very Poor
  • 401–500: Severe
With an AQI of 297, Delhi currently falls at the upper end of the 'poor' category, indicating that air pollution levels may pose health concerns, especially for sensitive groups. Residents are advised to limit prolonged outdoor activities during peak pollution hours.

Authorities continue monitoring the air quality closely, especially as weather changes could offer temporary respite.
