
Awareness Programme on Senior Citizens' Rights Held in Chanapora
A collaborative initiative by the Department of Social Welfare, DLSA Srinagar, and the Health Department promotes the rights, awareness, and stronger connections between generations in the Chanapora area.
February 12, Srinagar: A joint awareness programme focusing on the rights and welfare of senior citizens was organized in the Chanapora area of Srinagar on Wednesday. The initiative was jointly conducted by the Department of Social Welfare, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, and the Health Department.
The programme aimed to raise awareness among elderly citizens and their families about the legal provisions, welfare schemes, and healthcare services available for senior citizens. Officials highlighted various government initiatives designed to protect the dignity, security, and well-being of the elderly population.
Representatives from DLSA Srinagar elaborated on legal rights under relevant laws, including provisions for the maintenance and protection of parents and senior citizens. Health Department officials provided information on geriatric healthcare services and preventive care measures to ensure healthy ageing.
Speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening intergenerational bonds and encouraging respect and support for elderly members within families and society. Participants appreciated the initiative and called for more such outreach programmes at the community level.
