Shimla, April 1 — Members of the Devbhoomi Kshatriya Samaj staged a protest on Tuesday outside the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat in Shimla, condemning controversial remarks made by Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ramji Lal Suman about the revered Rajput ruler Rana Sanga. The protest escalated with demonstrators burning an effigy of the MP and engaging in a brief scuffle with the police.

Protesters Slam Remarks as "Ignorant and Unacceptable"

Led by organisation president Rumit Singh Thakur, the protesters raised slogans demanding an apology from the SP leader. Thakur criticised the MP for his comments, stating that individuals with "no understanding and knowledge of history or geography" were disrespecting India’s legendary warriors.

"We are on the streets to honour our warriors. This is deeply unfortunate and will not be tolerated by the Kshatriya community," Thakur asserted during the protest.

Nationwide Mobilisation Planned for April 12 in Agra

Thakur also announced that the Shimla protest was only the beginning of a larger movement. A major nationwide gathering is scheduled for April 12 in Agra, where Kshatriya groups from across India, including delegations from Himachal Pradesh, will unite in protest.

Who Was Rana Sanga?

Rana Sanga, also known as Maharana Sangram Singh I, ruled Mewar from 1508 to 1528. He is celebrated for his valour and resistance against Mughal emperor Babur in the early 16th century, symbolising Rajput pride and bravery.

The Devbhoomi Kshatriya Samaj’s demonstration reflects growing dissent within the Rajput community over statements perceived as disrespectful to historical figures. The upcoming protest in Agra is expected to draw significant attention from both state and national political circles.
