Top Police and Security Officials Assess Ground Situation Amid Fresh Encounter
Jammu, April 1 — Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma, visited Kathua district on Tuesday to review the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the region. The top officials reached the Panjtirthi area, where a joint combing operation is underway to track down three terrorists who managed to escape after a brief exchange of fire with security forces on Monday night. DGP Prabhat conducted a field inspection of the rugged riverine and mountainous terrain to boost the morale of the personnel engaged in the search.
Operation Intensifies Amid Escalating Security Threat
The high-intensity operation, spearheaded by the Special Operations Group (SOG) along with the Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has now entered its tenth day. Last Thursday, two terrorists were neutralized in an encounter in the Saniyal area of Kathua. Tragically, four police personnel lost their lives in the same operation, and three others sustained injuries.Despite the success, the remaining terrorists managed to flee, prompting an intensified manhunt. Officials believe the three fugitives are part of the same group that first clashed with security forces in the Nursery area near the International Border on March 23. They escaped then too, but were later traced to the forests of Sanyal, where the fatal encounter occurred.
Multi-Agency Efforts Underway with Aerial Support and Surveillance
With intelligence suggesting the terrorists are frequently changing hideouts within the dense jungle terrain, a coordinated multi-agency operation has been launched. On Monday, security forces ramped up the search efforts, employing aerial surveillance and deploying sniffer dogs to comb through the area.By nightfall, a fresh encounter erupted, prompting the laying of a tight cordon to prevent any further escape attempts. According to sources, a night-long siege was implemented to isolate and neutralize the holed-up terrorists.
The operation continues with enhanced vigilance as security forces strive to eliminate the remaining threat and restore normalcy in the region.
