New Delhi, February 9 A 35-year-old man was killed and a woman was seriously injured after their scooter collided with a stationary truck near Dhaula Kuan in southwest Delhi, an official said on Monday.
The incident occurred around 1:40 am near Metro Pillar Number 73 when Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, was riding a scooter from Naraina towards Dhaula Kuan with a 32-year-old woman as a passenger, police said.
Police received information about a road accident and a patient being brought to a hospital in a critical condition, the official said.
During the investigation, police found that the scooter collided with a truck that was parked on the road, the official said.
After the accident, the truck's driver fled the scene, police said.
Due to the impact, Singh suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by bystanders, where doctors pronounced him dead, police said.
The woman who was riding as a passenger also sustained injuries and was admitted to the trauma centre, where she is receiving treatment and is unable to provide a statement, they said.
A crime team also arrived at the scene and conducted a forensic examination of the accident site.
Police have registered an FIR, and further investigation is underway, they said.
After the post-mortem, the body has been handed over to the deceased's father, they added.
Both the offending truck and the accident scooter have been taken into police custody for further examination, the official said, adding that efforts are underway to trace and identify the absconding truck driver.
