Indore, May 15 – Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh launched a sharp attack on Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Vijay Shah, comparing him to the "BJP’s troll army" and demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify whether he endorses Shah’s controversial remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
Singh criticised the BJP for shielding Shah, despite the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordering police to register a case against him for allegedly making inflammatory remarks. “There is a race among BJP leaders to turn every issue into a Hindu-Muslim debate,” Singh told reporters in Indore. “Minister Vijay Shah’s recent speech is a continuation of this trend, questioning why Colonel Qureshi was assigned to brief the media on Operation Sindoor.”
He called on PM Modi and BJP president JP Nadda to publicly state whether they condone Shah’s comments about Col Qureshi, who, along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, drew nationwide attention during last week’s Operation Sindoor briefings.
The controversy erupted after a viral video purportedly showed Shah making derogatory comments about Col Qureshi. On Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court slammed Shah for using “scurrilous” and “gutter-level” language and directed the police to book him for promoting enmity and hatred.
Singh said, “This is not just Shah’s mentality, it reflects the ideology of BJP’s troll army. His remarks mirror the core thinking of the Sangh.”
He also condemned the BJP’s inaction against Shah, who currently serves as the tribal affairs minister, despite the court order and FIR. “The BJP’s attempt to protect him is blatant,” he added.
Praises Operation Sindoor, Raises Questions on Ceasefire
While commending the Indian armed forces and intelligence agencies for executing Operation Sindoor, Singh raised concerns over the fate of the four terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. “The strike was accurate and commendable. But the whereabouts of those four terrorists are still unclear,” he said.Singh also took a swipe at the alleged ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, questioning the role of external influence. “India has always handled conflicts with Pakistan independently. We have never allowed foreign powers to mediate,” he said, referencing former US President Donald Trump’s claim regarding the ceasefire.
Calling for transparency, Singh urged PM Modi to convene a meeting with opposition leaders to discuss the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. “After the Pahalgam attack, every Indian stood united with the government. But the sudden ceasefire announcement has left many unanswered questions,” he concluded.
