Hydroponic Weed Smuggled from Bangkok; Hashish Recovered in Mumbai Follow-Up Raid

Pune, May 14 – In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized narcotic substances worth approximately Rs 10.3 crore in coordinated operations at Pune airport and in Mumbai.

According to officials, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of DRI acted on a specific tip-off and intercepted two passengers who had arrived in Pune from Bangkok on Monday. Upon inspection, 9.86 kg of hydroponic weed — a potent, high-grade form of marijuana grown using advanced water-based techniques — was discovered in airtight pouches concealed within their baggage.

The operation didn’t stop there. A swift follow-up action was carried out in Mumbai, where a man awaiting the drug consignment was apprehended. A search of his premises led to the recovery of an additional 478 grams of narcotic substances, including both hashish and hydroponic weed.

All three individuals involved in the smuggling operation have been arrested under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The DRI has not disclosed its identities.

Authorities continue to investigate the broader network behind the smuggling operation, underscoring the growing trend of hydroponic weed trafficking into India via international routes.
