New Delhi, February 14 – A 76-year-old man died after being hit by a speeding SUV in Ghazipur village, Delhi, early Saturday morning, police said.

The vehicle was allegedly being driven by 26-year-old Shrey Kumar, a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, who was apprehended at the scene.

Other passengers in the vehicle fled immediately after the incident, according to an official statement.

"Around 6 a.m. today, a PCR call regarding a fatal road accident was received at the Ghazipur police station and later transferred to the PIA police station. The accident occurred near a petrol pump on the NH-24 service road in Ghazipur village," the police statement said.

When police personnel arrived at the scene, they found a damaged black Scorpio SUV on the sidewalk.

"One elderly man was found lying on the sidewalk. He had been hit by the vehicle after it reportedly skidded upon hitting the divider between the main road and the service road," officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Paik Karmai, originally from West Bengal and currently residing in Ghazipur village.

He was employed at the Flower Mandi in Ghazipur and was on his way to work with two colleagues at the time of the accident.

Police said the forensic team examined the scene, and the body was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

"The crime scene was examined by the forensic team, and the deceased was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem procedures. A case has been registered at the PIA police station, and further investigation is underway," the police added.

This case comes in the wake of the Kanpur Lamborghini accident, in which Shivam Mishra, the son of tobacco tycoon K.K. Mishra, injured six people with his speeding vehicle.

According to initial reports, the Lamborghini first hit a rickshaw and then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle was reportedly thrown about 10 feet away.

The Lamborghini then hit the motorcycle's front wheel and dragged it for some distance before colliding with an electric pole and coming to a stop.
