Chandigarh, May 10 — Amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Amritsar district administration has imposed a complete ban on the use of drones across the district, citing public safety and security concerns.

According to an official order issued by Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, the decision was prompted by credible intelligence inputs indicating potential misuse of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by anti-social elements. The order warns that such drones could be used for unauthorized surveillance, smuggling, capturing images of sensitive installations, or other activities that threaten peace and order.

Immediate Measures to Prevent Misuse

The administration deemed it necessary to implement immediate preventive measures to maintain peace and ensure the safety of citizens.

“Flying, operating, or using any kind of UAV, including drones, regardless of size or specification, is strictly prohibited in the entire jurisdiction of Amritsar district with immediate effect,” the directive states.

Exemptions for Official Use

The order clarifies that drones used by law enforcement, armed forces, or other government agencies for official purposes are exempt from the ban. Additionally, individuals or entities may operate drones with prior written permission from the District Magistrate or an authorised officer of the district administration.

Legal Consequences for Violations

Any violation of the ban will attract penal action under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, along with other applicable legal provisions.

The restrictions will remain in force until further notice, as authorities continue to monitor the security situation closely.
