Srinagar, May 10 — A high-alert situation gripped Srinagar on Saturday after two massive explosions were reported near the city's airport, prompting immediate action from security forces. A drone flying over the old airfield, also known as the "technical" airport, was intercepted and shot down by the air-defence system, according to official sources.
The twin blasts were heard around 11:45 a.m., triggering panic in the vicinity of the high-security airport zone. This followed multiple earlier explosions reported in the early hours of the day, suggesting a coordinated attempt to disturb peace in the region.
Authorities confirmed that the drone was neutralized as it hovered near the old airfield, a site used for military aviation operations. The air-defence teams were quick to respond, averting any potential damage or breach.
Officials have not yet disclosed the origin or target of the drone, and investigations are underway. No casualties or damage from the blasts have been reported so far.
Security across the city has been tightened, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
