Guwahati, May 12 — In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Police arrested two individuals in Sribhumi district and seized Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 2 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
According to Sarma, law enforcement officials recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets from the suspects during the operation. The Chief Minister shared the update on social media platform X, commending the district police team for their swift and effective action against the drug peddlers.“Congratulations to Sribhumi Police for their continued efforts in the fight against drugs,” Sarma posted, underscoring the state government’s commitment to curbing narcotics-related crimes.
Yaba, which translates to "crazy medicine" in Thai, is a dangerous and illegal substance in India. It contains methamphetamine, a potent stimulant classified under Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act, along with caffeine. The drug is known for its high potential for abuse and serious health risks.
This latest seizure adds to Assam’s growing list of anti-narcotics operations as authorities intensify their efforts to dismantle drug networks across the state.
