The Meteorological Department said Jammu and Kashmir will see mainly dry weather through Feb. 26, with only brief light snowfall expected in isolated higher areas.
Feb 16, Srinagar: India Meteorological Department officials said Sunday that weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir are expected to remain largely dry and stable until Feb. 26, with no significant rain or snowfall forecast during this period.
Director of the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad, said the overall outlook for the Union Territory indicates mostly calm conditions. However, brief spells of light snowfall may occur over isolated higher reaches on select days.
The forecast indicates a possibility of light snow over isolated higher altitudes on Feb. 17. From Feb. 18 to 24, weather conditions are expected to remain predominantly dry.
Skies may turn partly to generally cloudy on Feb. 25 and 26. Similar conditions are likely on Feb. 27 and 28, with chances of light rain or snow over isolated higher areas, particularly toward the evening or night of Feb. 28.
For March 1 and 2, the department has predicted generally cloudy skies with light snowfall at isolated higher elevations.
The department advised farmers to continue agricultural activities, citing favorable conditions. It also said minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to rise gradually across most areas over the next week.
Residents, particularly those in snow-bound and higher regions, were cautioned to avoid avalanche-prone and steep slopes as a precautionary measure.
