New Plant to Boost Local Production, Generate 700 Jobs by 2026

Chennai, April 4 – ebm-papst India, the Indian arm of the Germany-based ebm-papst Group, has officially broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Chennai, marking a major investment of ₹340 crore. The state-of-the-art plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and will employ approximately 700 people, significantly expanding the company’s local footprint.

The new facility, spread over 14.2 acres, is a key part of ebm-papst’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APMEA) regions. Once functional, the Chennai plant will serve as a major hub for regional supply, enhancing the group’s ‘Local for Local’ production model.

A Strategic Investment for Growth and Sustainability

“This investment reflects our long-term vision for India. By boosting local production, we are not only catering to the growing demand of our Indian customers but also creating sustainable employment opportunities that contribute to the country’s industrial development,” said Atul Tripathi, Managing Director, ebm-papst India.

The plant is expected to bolster the company’s manufacturing capabilities and make its supply chains more resilient and responsive to market needs. It also aligns with ebm-papst’s global push toward sustainability and digital innovation.

Enhancing Regional Operations and Digital Capabilities

ebm-papst has been active in India since 1996 and currently operates two manufacturing units, four sales offices, and several warehouses. With about 375 employees already in India, the new plant will nearly double its local workforce.

The Chennai project comes on the heels of the company launching a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in 2023, employing around 300 people. The GCC focuses on developing digital solutions for intelligent fan technologies and improving global processes—an integral part of the company’s digital transformation.

Global Leadership Perspective

Thomas Nuernberger, Chief Sales Officer of the ebm-papst Group and CEO for Air Technology in APAC and MEA, emphasized the company’s commitment to responsive and localized service. “By localising production and strengthening supply chains, we are ensuring that we can respond quickly and effectively to the needs of our Indian customers,” he said.

The ebm-papst Group, a family-owned German enterprise, reported a global turnover of €2.40 billion for FY 2023-24, underlining its strong international performance.
