EC Suspends West Bengal Systems Manager for Unauthorized Electoral Login.webp

Kolkata, May 19 – The Election Commission has suspended a systems manager posted in the Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, for "gross misconduct" related to electoral system access violations.

According to officials, the suspension was carried out immediately following a formal complaint from the district administration.

The accused official allegedly inserted his personal mobile number into the login profile of the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) for Kakdwip without any official authorisation. He subsequently used the one-time password (OTP) sent to his phone to access the official system and process voter-related applications under Forms 6, 7, and 8, which pertain to the inclusion, deletion, or correction of names in the electoral roll.

“This person has been found guilty of gross misconduct while discharging his official duties,” said a senior official from the commission.

The incident has raised concerns over data security and the integrity of electoral procedures in the run-up to ongoing electoral activities. An internal investigation is expected to follow.
