Jajpur (Odisha), Feb 3 (PTI) – In a tragic incident, the bodies of an elderly couple were found hanging inside their house in a village in Odisha’s Jajpur district, police reported on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Bijaya Rout (60) and his wife Padmini (55). While the exact cause of their deaths remains unknown, authorities suspect the couple may have died by suicide.
According to a police officer, a case of unnatural death has been registered, and an investigation is underway. “We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and are awaiting the report. The exact reason behind their deaths will be determined once we receive the findings,” the officer stated.
The distressing discovery was made after the couple’s only son, who works at a private firm in Bhubaneswar, was unable to reach his parents over the phone. Growing concerned, he asked a friend to check on them. Upon arriving at their residence, the friend found the couple hanging inside a room and immediately alerted the authorities.
