Bhawanipatna, Feb 2 (PTI): In a tragic incident, an elderly couple lost their lives after being trampled by wild elephants in Odisha's Kalahandi district, police reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in Kadomali village, under Lakhbaheli panchayat in Bhawanipatna South forest division. The victims, identified as Magun Majhi (70) and his wife Gada Majhi (65), were asleep in their hut when the elephants attacked.
According to police sources, the elephants first vandalized their hut before crushing the couple to death. Locals discovered the devastating scene the next morning and alerted authorities.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations as investigations continue. The tragic event underscores the growing human-animal conflict in the region, raising concerns about the safety of villagers living close to forested areas.
