Srinagar, May 15 — An encounter erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, following a targeted operation in the region, police confirmed.
According to officials, the operation began in the Nader Tral area of Awantipora in South Kashmir after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of terrorists. Acting swiftly, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the locality.
The situation escalated when the terrorists opened fire on the forces, prompting a retaliatory response and resulting in a fierce gunfight.
"The exchange of fire is ongoing," a police official said, noting that more details will be shared as the situation develops.
The encounter has heightened tension in the area, and additional forces have been deployed to ensure security and prevent any untoward incidents.
