Ahead of Ramadan, the Food Safety Department conducted inspections across Anantnag to check the hygiene, pricing, and quality of essential food items.
February 16, Srinagar: Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the Food Safety Department intensified market inspections in Anantnag to ensure food quality and protect public health.
A special inspection drive was carried out in several parts of the town, covering fruit and vegetable vendors, poultry sellers, and meat shops. Officials examined the freshness of perishable items, hygiene standards, storage conditions, and the pricing of commodities that see increased demand during Ramadan.
The inspection team also verified the use of proper weighing scales and compliance with food safety regulations. Meat and poultry outlets were checked to ensure that products were fit for consumption and stored in sanitary conditions.
During the drive, several shopkeepers were cautioned against selling stale or substandard items and were directed to strictly adhere to food safety regulations. Vendors were instructed to prominently display price lists and maintain cleanliness in and around their establishments.
Officials said that similar inspections will continue throughout Ramadan to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for consumers.
Authorities also appealed to residents to report instances of overpricing or the sale of unhygienic food items to the concerned department.
