
Key domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, experienced a strong rally today. The Sensex rose by 650 points or 0.79 percent, closing at 83,277. The Nifty also increased by 211 points or 0.83 percent, settling at 25,682. This recovery was driven by value buying in the real estate, pharmaceutical, and FMCG sectors.
Within the Sensex, 21 out of the 30 companies recorded gains. Among the gainers, Power Grid surged by over 4.4 percent, HDFC Bank rose by approximately 2.2 percent, and Axis Bank added more than 1.9 percent. Among the top performers, Tech Mahindra declined by over 1.4 percent, Maruti dropped by more than 1.1 percent, and Bajaj Finance fell by over one percent.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, 21 out of the 23 sectors ended in positive territory. Among the gainers, Power rose by over 2.4 percent, Utilities jumped by more than 2.1 percent, and Real Estate advanced by over 1.4 percent. Among the two laggards, Auto declined by 0.8 percent, and Consumer Discretionary lost by more than 0.3 percent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, as the shares of 2,510 companies declined, 1,793 companies advanced, and 193 remained unchanged.
