800 Boxes of Liquor Intercepted in Mumbra Following Tip-Off
Thane, May 17 – In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, the Thane district excise department seized 800 boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) valued at ₹50 lakh. The consignment, smuggled from Goa, was intercepted in the Mumbra area, located about 9 km from Thane city. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.Pravin Tambe, Superintendent of the State Excise Department in Thane, confirmed that the operation was carried out on Friday evening following a tip-off. A squad intercepted a tempo that was transporting the illicit liquor consignment.
“The seized IMFL was manufactured in Goa, and its sale is strictly prohibited in Maharashtra,” Tambe stated. He added that the liquor, comprising various popular brands, was packed into 800 boxes.
Authorities suspect a larger smuggling network behind the operation and have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the racket.
The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of the state excise department to curb the illegal transport and sale of liquor across state borders.
