Bengaluru, Feb 4 (PTI) – Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M B Patil, announced on Tuesday that an exclusive roundtable focused on the state's ambitious KWIN-City project will be held during the upcoming Global Investors' Meet (GIM) 2025. The session, set for February 13, will bring together key stakeholders, including prominent Indian and international universities, as well as leading institutions, with the aim of fostering collaborations in education, research, and innovation.
The roundtable is expected to be a significant event at GIM 2025, as it will also see the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between foreign and Indian universities, Patil confirmed in a press release issued by the Karnataka government.
Patil emphasized the importance of this initiative, pointing out that under UGC norms, the top 500 global universities are now allowed to establish campuses in India. Karnataka plans to fully leverage this opportunity, he said. He added that the GIM 2025 will not only focus on industrial investments but will also prioritize sectors such as research, skill development, and ancillary industries, with a particular focus on creating a highly skilled workforce.
“KWIN-City represents a visionary model for urban development, aligned with global standards in entrepreneurship, skills, and innovation,” Patil said, further underlining the forward-thinking nature of the project.
The one-and-a-half-hour roundtable will feature key figures from the state government, including Higher Education Minister M C Sudhakar, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, along with other senior officials. Several prominent Indian institutions, such as Azim Premji University, PES University, MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University, Chanakya University, St. Joseph’s University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Amity University, BLDE University, Christ University, Jain University, and KLE University, have been invited to participate.
Additionally, respected research bodies like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), and the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) are also expected to attend.
The KWIN-City project, spanning approximately 5,000 acres between Doddaballapur and Dabaspet, is envisioned as a major hub for education, healthcare, research, and innovation, according to the Karnataka government's statement.
