No Evidence of Grenade Blast Found, Say Officials
Patiala, April 1 — A loud explosion-like sound was reported late Monday night near the Badshahpur police outpost in Punjab's Patiala district, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh led the police response team to assess the situation on the ground.“We heard an explosion sound late Monday night. Our team rushed to the spot and began a thorough examination of the area, including the nearby surroundings,” SSP Singh told reporters on Tuesday.
No Residue Found, Blast Type Unconfirmed
Despite initial concerns of a possible grenade attack, police officials have not discovered any physical evidence supporting that theory.“Until now, there’s been no confirmation of a grenade blast. We haven't found any residue or parts like a lever, which would typically indicate a grenade explosion,” SSP Singh clarified.
The police have conducted extensive searches, including in nearby fields, but no signs of explosive material or damage were found. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and vowed to follow through with a complete inquiry.
Context: Rising Incidents in Punjab
The incident comes against the backdrop of several recent blasts targeting police outposts across Punjab, particularly in Amritsar and Gurdaspur. Just last month, a blast occurred outside a temple in Amritsar, raising concerns about public safety and law enforcement vulnerabilities. While the current case in Patiala has not yet been linked to any confirmed attack, authorities are treating the matter seriously and are continuing efforts to uncover the source of the sound.
Police have assured the public that they will pursue the matter to a "logical end" and urged citizens to remain calm but vigilant as the probe continues.
