Craters Found in Gurdaspur and Phagwara Fields Amid Drone, Missile Threats from Pakistan

Gurdaspur/Phagwara, May 10 – Panic gripped parts of Punjab on Saturday after loud explosions left massive craters in agricultural fields in Gurdaspur and Phagwara districts. These incidents occurred amid heightened tensions and multiple drone attacks thwarted by Indian security forces along the western border with Pakistan.

Explosion Creates Massive Crater in Gurdaspur

In Gurdaspur’s Rajubela Chhichhran village, a powerful explosion around 4:50 a.m. created a massive crater measuring nearly 35 feet wide and 15 feet deep in a field. The blast shattered window panes in nearby homes and damaged electrical wires.

“There was a huge explosion that shook the village. The sound was deafening,” said a local resident. Police confirmed that no one was injured, but cordoned off the area for safety as Army personnel arrived to inspect the debris.

Similar Incident in Phagwara Raises Alarm

In another incident reported at 2:40 a.m., an unidentified object fell between Khalyan and Sahni villages in Phagwara. The impact left a crater about 12 to 14 feet wide and 7 to 8 feet deep, damaging crop fields and igniting some wheat straw, which was quickly extinguished by fire personnel.

Local officials stated that debris from the unidentified projectile was scattered across the site. No casualties were reported.

As a precaution, Additional Deputy Commissioner Akshita Gupta announced the closure of all marketplaces, except medical stores, in Phagwara. Malls and commercial high-rises across the district were also ordered shut for the day.

Widespread Debris Found Across Punjab

Metallic fragments of similar unidentified projectiles were found in multiple locations including Beas (Amritsar), Jalandhar, Pathankot, and Tarn Taran. Authorities have urged the public not to touch any suspicious objects and to report them to local police immediately.

Pakistani Drone Attacks Thwarted

The Indian security forces successfully neutralized multiple Pakistani drones targeting Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Amritsar on Friday evening.

One particularly disturbing incident occurred in Ferozepur’s Khai Pheme Ke village, where three members of a family were injured after a destroyed Pakistani drone’s projectile crashed into their house, igniting the structure and a car.

India Condemns Civilian Targeting

India condemned Pakistan’s actions, stating that its “execrable and wanton campaign” of targeting civilians and infrastructure continues, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.

These developments follow India’s recent precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which had cross-border links.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have deployed additional security to sensitive areas.
