Family of Tourist Questions Cause of Death After Hut Collapse in Wayanad.webp

Wayanad, Kerala, May 17 – The family of Nimisha, a young woman who allegedly died after a hut collapsed at a resort in Kerala’s Wayanad district, has raised serious doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death and is demanding a thorough investigation.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at a resort near the forest area of Meppadi panchayat. Nimisha was reportedly staying with several friends in a large thatched hut supported by wooden poles, which allegedly collapsed while they were asleep.

Family Questions Version of Events

Speaking to the media, Nimisha’s mother expressed shock and disbelief over the incident, questioning the safety standards of the resort. She pointed out that although several people were sleeping in the hut, only her daughter suffered fatal injuries.

"How come only my daughter died, while all her friends who were there were not even injured?" she asked, demanding accountability from the resort authorities. She also raised concerns over the structural integrity of the hut, asking how such an unsafe construction was permitted for tourist accommodation, especially during rainy conditions.

Suspicion Over Nature of Injuries

Nimisha’s brother also voiced concerns, citing inconsistencies in the visible condition of her body. "There were no visible injuries or blood on her. But the postmortem report mentioned multiple internal injuries and broken bones," he said.

He further elaborated that according to Nimisha's friends, four tents had been set up inside the large hut, with two individuals in each tent. "If such a large structure had collapsed, wouldn't there be more visible damage or injuries? But she was the only one affected," he questioned.

The family also mentioned a trickle of blood from Nimisha’s mouth, which the medical examiner explained was caused by blood in the lungs.

Police Action and Arrests

Following the incident, the Wayanad police arrested two individuals — Swachanth and Anurag, the manager and supervisor of the resort — on Friday. Both have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The family has urged authorities to conduct a detailed investigation to uncover the truth behind the mysterious circumstances of Nimisha’s death.

The case has sparked concerns over safety practices at tourist resorts in the region, especially those located near ecologically sensitive and remote areas.
