Thane, February 16 A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a high-rise building in Thane West on Monday, a police official said.

The Class XI student jumped to her death from the balcony of her 14th-floor apartment in the Shubhasanket Cooperative Housing Society in the Mogharpada area at around 4 pm, he said.

A note found at the scene read, "Don't be a burden on the family, be happy," the official added.

"She was taken to a private medical facility in the Ovale area, where doctors pronounced her dead before admission. A case of accidental death has been registered. The body has been sent for autopsy," the official said.

The statements of her family and neighbors are being recorded, he said, adding that there is no suspicion of foul play at this time.
