Fatal accident in Bhiwandi: Cops register FIR after reviewing autopsy report

Thane, Feb 2 (PTI) – Police in Bhiwandi have registered an FIR against an unidentified truck driver in connection with a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man on January 19, an official said on Sunday.

Initially recorded as an accidental death, the case took a turn following an autopsy review, prompting authorities at Narpoli police station to file charges against the driver.

The incident occurred near an eatery in Anjur-Dive village along the Nashik-Mumbai highway. The victim, Ayaz Razzak Shemle, was traveling towards Mumbai on a two-wheeler with a friend riding pillion. In an attempt to avoid a pothole, the motorcycle lost balance, causing both riders to fall onto the road.

Shemle sustained critical injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. Subsequent investigations revealed that after falling, he was fatally run over by a truck. Based on these findings, police have registered a case against the unidentified driver under charges of causing death by negligence and rash driving as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Authorities are continuing efforts to trace the driver responsible for the accident.
