FIR Filed Against Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah Over Remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi

Chief Minister Confirms Action Ordered Following High Court Direction

Indore/Bhopal, May 15 – An FIR has been filed against Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah in connection with alleged objectionable remarks made about Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The registration of the case took place on Wednesday night in Indore district, following instructions issued by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in compliance with orders from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hitika Vasal, the FIR was lodged at the Manpur police station under the following IPC sections:
  • Section 152: Pertaining to acts endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India
  • Section 196 (1)(B): Relating to actions that adversely affect communal harmony and may incite public unrest
  • Section 197 (1)(C): Concerning statements about a community member that can disturb mutual harmony
The controversial comments were made by Minister Shah during a public event in a rural region of Indore district on Monday. While he did not mention Colonel Qureshi by name, the remarks sparked widespread criticism.

Colonel Sofia Qureshi had previously represented the Indian Armed Forces in press briefings on Operation Sindoor, appearing alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.

In response to the backlash, Shah expressed regret, stating that if his words had hurt anyone, he was willing to apologise "ten times." He added that he holds Colonel Qureshi in higher regard than even his own sister.
